HILLSBOROUGH – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will begin removing and replacing a bridge over the Eno River near Hillsborough next week.
NCDOT crews will close Halls Mill Road and Bane Road starting Monday in Orange County to accommodate construction crews.
This bridge is approaching the end of its service life and has a posted weight limit of only 17 tons per vehicle. The new structure will have no posted weight limit.
In addition, Bane Road will only be closed at the intersection of Hanes Mill Road and Bane Road. The road closure is for the entire six months, beginning Monday morning through Tuesday, Dec. 15. Vehicles will detour to Brookhollow Road, Efland Cedar Grove Road and Highland Farm Road.
Smith-Rowe Construction of Mount Airy earned the $2.5 million contract as the lowest qualified bidder.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through work zones.
