Ramp Closure Scheduled for I-85 in Orange County
HILLSBOROUGH – N.C. Department of Transportation crews are set to close an off-ramp along Interstate 85 this week, weather permitting.
The off-ramp at Exit 163 from I-85 South to I-40 East will close starting tonight at 9 p.m. to allow for hauling and clearing operations. The ramp is expected to reopen by Sept. 12 at 5 a.m.
During the closure, a signed detour will direct motorists to take Exit 161 to get on the I-40 East on-ramp.

Lee County Road Closure Upcoming
SANFORD – The N.C. Department of Transportation is set to temporarily close part of a Lee County road this week to allow crews to replace two crossline pipes. Starting Sept. 9 at 8 a.m., both directions of N.C. 42 (Avents Ferry Road) will close near Poplar Springs Church Road. The road is expected to reopen by 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, weather permitting. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic around the closure via Poplar Springs Church Road. NCDOT Installing All-Way Stop in Orange County
All-way stop to be installed Aug. 26 near Hillsborough
| HILLSBOROUGH – N.C. Department of Transportation crews will install an all-way stop at the intersection of N.C. 157 and New Sharon Church Road, northeast of Hillsborough on Wednesday, Aug. 26. NCDOT has determined an all-way stop is the most cost-effective way to improve safety at this location. Traffic engineers examined data including traffic volumes, crash data and crash patterns and concluded that the intersection no longer meets criteria for a traffic signal. Drivers should be alert to crews working in the area on Aug. 26 and the new changes at the intersection which includes new advance warning signs. NCDOT crash data shows all-way stops reduce total crashes by 55%, fatal and serious injury crashes by 92% and frontal-impact crashes with minor injuries by 72%. - The first vehicle to the intersection has the right of way ahead of any vehicle that has not yet arrived;
- When two or more vehicles reach an intersection at the same time, the vehicle to the right has the right of way;
- The vehicle with the right of way may move straight ahead or, if legal and after signaling, turn left or right;
- When two facing vehicles approach an intersection at the same time, both drivers can move straight ahead and turn right. If one driver is going straight while the other wants to turn left, the driver who wants to turn left must yield. The driver who is traveling straight ahead has the right of way;
- Even with the right of way, remember to use the appropriate turn signals and be careful to avoid hitting other vehicles and/or pedestrians.

Work Continues on Midland Road Project in Moore County
Lane closures upcoming for milling and resurfacing work
SOUTHERN PINES – N.C. Department of Transportation crews have completed preliminary construction on the ongoing Midland Road improvements project in Moore County and will continue maintenance along the roadway this month.
NCDOT crews finished installing planned U-turn bulbs and selectively removed trees at multiple locations to enhance sight distance. Crews have also taken out each of the crossovers designated for removal and installed temporary wooden bollards to clearly mark the updated traffic pattern and prevent further use.
Weather permitting, the paving contractor, S.T. Wooten plans to begin milling and resurfacing Midland Road between Airport Road and Clark Street later this month.Transportation officials anticipate periodic lane closures during non-peak daytime travel hours while crews are working in the area. The work is expected to take about three months.
Once complete, the segment of Midland Road from U.S. 1 to Clark Street will transition to a single lane in each direction with a designated bike lane, while the segment from U.S. 1 to Airport Road will remain a four‑lane divided roadway.
In addition to new pavement and updated markings, crews will install landscape plantings this fall in the areas where crossovers were removed, adjacent to the bollards. As the vegetation matures, the bollards will be selectively removed.

Major Closure and Detour on Fort Bragg to Begin July 27
The closure on the All American Freeway to last up to two years
FORT BRAGG – A much needed improvement project that will close a critical section of the All American Freeway on Fort Bragg for up to two years is scheduled to begin July 27.
The N.C. Department of Transportation recently approved a $15.5 million project to replace the 50-year-old Gruber Road bridge over the All American Freeway and make permanent repairs to a section of the freeway that has been settling and damaging the pavement and drainage systems.
The work by local contractor Highland Paving will require the All American Freeway gate, the Gruber Road interchange and the freeway on post between Gruber and Zabitosky roads to close for up to two years. The All American Gate Visitor Center, however, will remain open during construction.
Commuters to Fort Bragg are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays and follow all posted detour signs and digital message boards. Officials with NCDOT Highway Division 6’s traffic services unit and Fort Bragg’s Department of Public Works will be monitoring conditions and adjusting traffic signals, as needed, once the detour begins.
The bridge replacement and highway pavement repairs are needed to address long-term structural and safety issues. The Gruber Road bridge is nearing the end of its service life and has weight limits restricting some heavy military equipment from crossing it. The new bridge will not have those weight restrictions.
The freeway was built over an old landfill, causing a portion of the roadway to settle. The NCDOT contractor will deploy an innovative repair process that includes removing, replacing and compacting several feet of soil.
Consolidating the work under one closure will speed up construction, lower costs, and improve safety for crews and detoured motorists.

Road Closure Scheduled for Chatham County
SILER CITY – N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews are set to close a Chatham County road next week for a pipe replacement.
Starting at 8 a.m. on June 29, a section of N.C. 902 will close near Tom Hancock Road. The road is expected to reopen to traffic by July 10 at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured via Tom Hancock Road, Vander Oldham Road and Bonlee Carbonton Road.
Drivers should be mindful of crews working in the area and allow extra time to reach their destination.
